Creative Storage Solutions

Living in Florida, we don't have the option of getting a house with a basement.  I know, right?! I don't like it either but if I had to chose between a basement and the beach, I would chose the beach a million times over! Snow and cold weather are not what you would call some of my favorite things.

With the lack of a basement, when trying to create storage around our home, I have had to come up with some interesting solutions to solve our storage issues.  I mean, I have to store our Christmas, Easter, Halloween decorations somewhere! I can spend hours upon hours on Pinterest searching for ideas and inspiration on how to create storage where these is none.

Check out below some of my favorites below!

Using Furniture

One of the best things I have done in our house was toq add a dresser in our main hallway.  This space is pretty large and grand so putting in a large piece makes it feel more cozy.  The best thing about choosing a dresser in this space is that it provides me with tons of storage that I previously didn't have.  This is where I am able to store all of my cloth napkins, place mats, charger plates, and I even have a whole drawer dedicated to hold all my crafting supplies. I absolutely love having the additional storage.  I decided to hand a big mirror above it to bounce off the light from the front door making the space feel even brighter.

Another way that I have used furniture to help with storage issues is with my coffee table.  I specifically chose this round coffee table because not only did it not have sharp corners to worry about but also the top comes off providing a whole basket full of storage.  We love this one because it allows us to store all our throws in one spot and out of the way when not in use.

Back of Doors!

For a home needing storage, the back of doors is prime real estate! I absolutely love using storage systems behind doors so that I am able to utilize the space to its full potential.  Check below for some of my favorite ideas!

Baskets and Boxes

One of the best ways that I have found to store toys in our house is by using baskets. This allows the toys to be easily accessed by our baby boy whenever he wants, but also, makes it really easy for us to put them away once he is done playing.  We also have a rule that once the toys fill up in the baskets, we do not bring any more toys out in the living area. We either rotate them or they go in his room.  This keeps our home clean but also not looking like a toy store. We simple let our baby play during the day and put away the toys after he has gone to bed.

I also love using storage boxes in our office to hide and store all of the things that we need quick access to but don't necessarily want to see out all of the time.  I keep a box of all my husbands toys, like his goPro and accessories, his small drone, games, and tools.  Everything is labeled so he knows what box to reach for and exactly where to put it away.
