Creative Ways to Hang Stockings When You Don't Have a Mantle

Decorating for the holidays is one of my absolute favorite things to do. It's about the only time of year that I actually miss living in northern Ohio where snow would have most definitely already covered the ground outside and roaring fires would be keeping us warm inside. Since moving to Florida, I've had to adjust my view of what Christmas should look like. Christmas lights on palm trees? Why not! Bright, sunny days with the occasional cold front? Bring it on Florida winters!

As our little family continues to grow and we are awaiting the arrival of our second child, I've had to get creative with ways to display our Christmas stockings. It's hard to get that view out of my head picturing a group of stockings, hanging from the mantle with a roaring fire in the background. It's the perfect Christmas scene! So over the years, I've tried several ways to creatively display our stockings to recreate the perfect Christmas picture without the mantle or the fireplace.

If you don't have a fireplace in your home or are simply looking for creative ways to display your stockings, then this post is for you!

Standing Stocking Holder

A few years ago, I purchased this stocking holder from Kirklands. I loved the idea and had to give it a try. At this point, our little group was only a family of three, so it looked a little sparse. I think now that we are a family of four it will fill out the stand a little better. This stocking holder is also the perfect alternative if you have a fireplace but not a mantle. You could place this holder at a safe distance in front of the fireplace while enjoying the view of the fire behind the stockings.

Hang Stockings a door or window:

Last year, I decided to change the placement of our Christmas tree and placed it in front of our three door sliders (this was pre-lanai conversion to a four season room). We barely opened all of the doors during this time of year so I didn’t mind having the tree blocking the door. You could also enjoy the Christmas tree from multiple directions, which I loved. I took a simple approach and simply hung our stockings on the glass with suction hooks from the Dollar Tree. They were strong enough to hold and the stockings added just that added touch to the Christmas tree scene I had going on.

Use a Console Table as a Mantle

This year, I decided to try something new and used our TV console and this cute Target stocking holder to hold our four stockings. I liked this look but felt the Merry Christmas from the stocking holder was overshadowed by our white Christmas village scene. So I decided to move it to the red console table right next to our Christmas tree. This spot was perfect because I was able to keep the bottom free allowing the stockings to be center state.

This view has become one of my favorite’s in our home. I love that you can see the Christmas tree reflected in the mirror with the stockings gently hanging below.
