DIY Dog Cabinet

Once Charlie, our miniature goldendoodle, joined our family, I've struggled with where do we keep the food and water bowls. Since our home is an open floor plan, there didn't seem to be a spot that would not be in the way. We tried out several spots, in the laundry room, playroom, right next to the kitchen, but none of them felt right. The bowls always seemed to be in the way with kids running into them spilling food and water everywhere or Charlie not being able to find them.

"Why did you hide my food bowl all the way in the laundry mom?!"

Needless to say, we needed to find a better solution. When we first got Charlie, I had cleared out a kitchen cabinet to help store all his stuff - food, toys, and treats. I decided to use this same cabinet and turn it into a storage/feeding station for Charlie. The best option would be to remove the doors and make the inside of the cabinet look and feel pretty to match the decor in the rest of our home.

I wanted to make sure that this was the right solution, so I decided to paint the inside of the cabinet white and live with it for a few days. Our little experiment was a success so I started to brainstorm how I wanted to make it pretty and functional for Charlie.

I knew I wanted to put something down at the bottom to protect the cabinet. I decided to use this marble contact paper from Amazon. I've used it before in our laundry room and love the look. The colors on the stone match the aesthetic of our home and I like how I have the flexibility to remove it if I chose to down the line.

I got these pretty little white baskets from Walmart to help store all his "stuff." I like that they are wipeable but still pretty. Since the doors would be off, I wanted to make sure that whatever storage solutions I brought in would also look nice since it was now an open cabinet.

Of course, I couldn’t help myself decorating his space. So I added a picture of Charlie in a Dollar Tree frame.

It finally feels like we have found the perfect solution for both Charlie and our family.
