A Fall Refresh: 6 Easy Ways to Rejuvenate your Home this Fall

Itching to give your home a new look for fall?

Giving your home an update doesn't mean spending a lot of time or money. Give your home a refresh with these few simple tricks for creating a feeling of a restyled home. A space that evokes the feeling of cool, cozy fall days can be accomplished by a simple restyle of your decor.

Rearrange Art

One of the most affordable ways to give your home a refresh is by using decor that you already own. I'm always amazed how different an item can look by simply moving it to a different spot in the house. If you've been following me on Instagram (@housebythepreserve) then you already know that we finally finished painting our entire home! My husband and I did all the painting ourselves and it took us over a year (it's hard to paint with a toddler running around) but it's finally complete. Once I was ready to start putting the art back on the freshly painted walls I started playing around with their placement. I had our entire house to "shop" from and I was pleasantly surprised at how refreshingly new it made our house feel.

Add Pops of Bright Fall Colors

One of my favorite ways to update my home for fall is to add in pops of fall colors. I tend to keep most of my big furniture pieces neutral so I like to add color with my accessories. I find that this is the most cost effective way to update my home. We recently added curtains to our 3 door slider and we chose a beautiful light turquoise that added a ton of color. I then carried that color through our family room by using throw pillows in a faux fur fabric that I scored at Home Goods for $19.99 for the pair. I also added two dark blue velvet pillows to add more texture.

Textiles isn't the only way to add color to your space. I also like to add pops of color using real and faux flowers throughout my home. Check out my post here for tips on how I make faux flowers look real.

Restyle your Coffee Table

A quick update that I love doing as the seasons change is updating our coffee table. It's such a small area to update without spending a lot of money on new decor. For fall, I like to bring out some of my favorite fall themed decor along with some of our favorite fall reads. Adding a pop of color with flowers from our garden and a small candle for a little ambiance completes the updated look.

Bring the Indoors Out

My favorite part of fall is all about being outdoors and finally enjoying the cooler weather. Florida summers can be brutally hot so fall is when we really get to enjoy our outdoor spaces. I love being able to extend our indoor space out by sprucing up our screened in patio. The key to decorating your outdoor space is to treat it like another room in your home. Selecting pieces that are comfortable and inviting but able to withstand the elements.

Add Fall Scents

One of the ways that I love bringing fall into our home is by updating to fall scents. That means that all of the summery scents like lemon, coconut, and honeysuckle get put away and wintery scents like cinnamon, vanilla bean, apple are put out. I do this by updating the hand and body soaps in our bathrooms, changing out our candles, and updating the essential oils we use with our diffuser. Something that I've recently started doing that I've been loving is adding a drop or two of my favorite fall essential oils to the faux flowers in our home. It smells delicious and makes the flowers feel and look real!

Refresh Bedding

Another affordable way to update your decor for the fall months is by updating your bedding. I like to start by completely removing all the bedding from our bed and giving the mattress a deep cleaning. For the Florida fall months, I like to keep our bedding pretty light and bright. So our down comforter gets put out by the foot of our bed for those extra cold nights. Fresh sheets are always an amazing incentive to crawl into bed.
