5 Affordable Ways to Transition Your Decor from Summer to Fall

As the weather starts to cool down and the days get shorter, I find myself wanting to spend more time at home rather than packing my days with the activity-filled summer activities. The shift to spending more time indoors is the perfect opportunity to transition your home decor from summer to the warm, cozy vibes of autumn.
You don’t need to break the bank to bring in the fall season into your home. Here are five affordable ways I’m using to help bring the spirit of fall into my home:
ADD THROW PILLOWS & BLANKETS
There’s nothing that screams Fall more than adding lots of warmth and texture. Pack away linen throws and bright-colored throw pillows and focus on introducing thicker knit blankets, faux fur throws, and pillows in the classic autumnal hues like deep reds, burnt oranges, mustard yellows, and rich browns. Don’t be afraid to drape a cozy blanket over your couch or an armchair, and scatter fall-toned throw pillows on your sofa.
FOCUS ON NATURAL ELEMENTS
If you’ve been following me for a while, then you know I love using faux flowers and stems. Some nice, quality ones can make a space pop. For the fall season, I like to add deep-colored flowers that you would find out in nature. Think sunflowers, mums, and orchids. But it’s not just about flowers; you could also bring in pine cones, acorns, and small branches to add to your home decor. These natural elements are not inexpensive, but also look beautiful.
SWITCH OUT SUMMER SCENTS
There’s nothing more impactful than updating your scents in your home. It’s probably one of the first things that people will notice. Imagine walking into your home and instantly being surrounded by the scents of fall like cinnamon, apple cider, pumpkin spice, clove, and woodsmoke. The simple act of lighting a fall-scented candle can instantly make your home feel cozier and more inviting.
INCORPORATE WARM LIGHTING
There’s a rule in our house that we never turn on the “big light” unless we’re looking for something that fell on the floor. But in all seriousness, there’s nothing like a mood killer than using your overhead lighting. This is the time of year when we get to use all our table lamps, floor lamps, and sconces throughout our home to create a soft, cozy glow. Nowadays, there are a ton of options from hard-wired lighting to battery-powered table lamps. The choice is yours!
ADD FALL-THEMED ACCENTS
Try adding a fall colored doormat to welcome guests, swapping out your regular hand towels for ones with autumn-inspired colors, or decorating with a few decorative pumpkins or gourds on shelves or mantels. Simple things like changing out your artwork or adding a fall-themed garland can help update your home for the season.
Transitioning your home decor from summer to fall doesn’t have to be an expensive process. By using home decor pieces, colors, and scents that help remind you of fall, you can accomplish a whole new feeling in your home to welcome in the season.
