Kitchen Bar Stool Makeover - Painting with Fusion Mineral Paint

DIY

I recently finished painting our kitchen cabinets and I couldn’t be happier with the result. Our kitchen looks like a million bucks but we’ve only spent a couple hundred dollars. My kind of transformation!

One of the projects that I knew I would have to tackle once the cabinets were painted was the bar stools. We scored four of the bar stools on Facebook Marketplace for $150! Not bad for solid wood counter height chairs! As I finished painting the kitchen, it became clear that I had to give the chairs a makeover. I was going for a modern traditional look and less of a farmhouse/country look.

See how the bar stools used to look:

Reasons why I decided to use Fusion Mineral Paint:

  1. After painting our kitchen I wanted an easy paint project. This paint doesn’t require sanding, priming, or a top coat!

  2. I needed something durable as these are chairs we use every day.

  3. I was looking for a flat finish to achieve that modern casual look I was going after.

  4. Easy to use! A welcome relief after all the work required to paint our kitchen cabinets!

Once I decided on the type of paint I wanted to use, next was deciding on the color. As I mentioned earlier, I wanted to achieve a modern casual look with the chairs and I felt that a darker color would stand out against the white wall.

I settled on painting the chairs “Coal Black” by Fusion Mineral Paint. The process was super simple and the paint has amazing coverage. I used a 500 ml bottle for all four chairs while giving each chair two coats for extra durability and had about a quarter bottle left.

I started by giving the chairs a good clean. I simply used my usual counter cleaner with a microfiber cloth paying close attention to getting all the nooks and crannies clean.

I have to admit that with my first chair, I did lightly sand the chair before applying the paint. I just couldn’t believe that this paint would adhere without any sanding. I was pleasantly surprised when I applied the paint to the second chair after cleaning it. No sanding at all. The paint applied beautifully and looks incredible. There’s no visual difference between the first chair or the second and after about a month of having painted them, both chairs are looked just as good as the first day.

I have to say that I am so impressed with this paint that I can’t wait to get my hands on another project so that I can use it again.
