Refreshing My Home after the Holidays

Resetting my home after the holiday season is over is one of my favorite ways to breathe new life into our space. Although Christmas time is my favorite holiday of the year, by the time January rolls around I find myself longing for a fresh start. The house can feel a little empty as Christmas decorations get put away but I actually tend to find this time soothing. It allows me to see my house in a different way as I slowly start bringing in my décor pieces that I put away to make room for Christmas.

I find that I'm the most creative with my decor pieces during this time. Like the time apart has allowed me to see the pieces in new ways. Putting items in different rooms than where they used to live, moving my art around and even sometimes playing with furniture. This is the time that I find myself being the most creative in how I use my things.

Giving it a Good Clean

There’s nothing that gets my creative juices flowing more than emptying a space out and giving it a good clean. Especially after the holiday season, as I’m putting holiday decorations away and bringing out our everyday decor, this is when I take the time to play around with my pieces, trying them out in different spots.

Bedroom

Playing with the bedding in our bedroom is one of the easiest and most cost effective way to give the room a little makeover. Plus who doesn't like fresh linens?! For winter time in Florida. I find that layering in our bedding is essential for a good night's rest. You never know when one night it's in the 70s and the next in the 40s. We love using a top sheet and blanket and typically stick to just a coverlet. We do have a down comforter handy for those extra cold nights at the foot of our bed. Plus I love how fluffy it makes the bed look.

Kitchen

Our kitchen had a major makeover a few years ago and it’s been holding up great. We've updated the sink and faucet last year but that's basically been it. I've been feeling like I've been in a rut when it came to styling our countertops. Since the kitchen and family areas are all open to each other, I wanted the items on the countertops to not only be functional but pretty to look at. I think that I've finally landed on things that I not only love to use but are pretty to see, the trick was styling in a way that was pleasing to the eye. This took me several tries, but I think I finally got it to a place that I'm happy with.

 Family Room

I'm a big fan of layering in decor whenever I can and family room is a perfect example. I always start of super bare with just the essentials in the room. Next I bring in my seasonal items, like throw blankets and rugs to help add layers and texture. I finish by adding my decorating pieces. I always find that right after the holiday's I tend to gravitate towards whites and creams. It makes my space feel more calm and relaxing after all the bright greens and reds of the holiday season.

There’s always something exciting about starting the year with a fresh start. I’m excited to see what this year holds for our family and this house. Looking forward to sharing it all with you! Wishing you all a great start to the year!
