Creating a Sitting Area in our Primary Bedroom

As a homebody, my bedroom has always been the spot in our home that I gravitate towards when I just need some time alone or just need to cozy up and relax for a while.  Making this space feel cozy and inviting has always been my goal but with the daily activities of our family and just life in general, it was starting to feel like a forgotten space. So today I'm sharing how I've refreshed our bedroom with pieces that we already owned while getting rid of some that just didn't work for us.

I always envisioned a sitting area in our bedroom. In fact, I've tried several times to create a spot to sit down and relax. My first try was two chairs in between the windows and unfortunately, the chairs were just not comfortable. Next, I tried just one oversized chair and the only spot that it would kind of fit was in the corner next to our dresser. Although the chair was comfortable, it was so big, I could only fit one chair and every time we wanted to sit and watch TV, we had to either move the chair or get a neck cramp.

We've had these barrel swivel chairs in another room but they have since been replaced with a sofa. So that meant that I had to find a spot for these chairs or I was going to have to get rid of them. It was a match made in heaven because the chairs are the perfect size to fit in front of our bed without looking too bulky. To anchor the space at the bottom of the bed, I also added an area rug that has been in storage. We previously used it in our entry area but after getting a dog, the rug just kept getting bunched up no matter how much carpet taped I used. This is a much better space for it! We've had this set up in our bedroom for a couple of months now and I'm honestly amazed at how much we use them. You can find myself or my husband taking a break, reading a book, or just chatting away at least once a day sitting in these chairs. They have been a great addition to our bedroom.

Although, I LOVED the color of the walls in our bedroom "Midnight in NY" by Behr, the color always felt a little bit off because it didn't flow well with the other rooms in our home. So I decided to change it to "Porpoise" by Sherwin Williams. It's a beautiful dark greige color with brown undertones. I love how it still gives our bedroom a moody vide without making the space feel like a cave.

I also updated the curtains. We've had the same white curtains for years and I just felt that the room needed a little bit more pattern since I removed the big area rug that went under the bed. I found the most beautiful room darkening curtains on Amazon and you can't beat the price!

Surprisingly, the changes that felt like the biggest impact was the bedding. The duvet and shams are from IKEA and I just love how it pulled the room together. I added fun patterned flannel sheets from Target to break up the floral pattern.

These simple changes transformed our room to give it a refresh just in time for all the cold weather to reach Florida. We've been hanging out in here, reconnecting after a long work day, and just plain relaxing while watching our favorite shows.
