How to make your Laundry Room more Organized
Ahh the laundry room. I had a love/hate relationship with my laundry room. That is, until after I decorated it! Check out my post here where I reveal all of our upgrades to this space.
I know what you are thinking, decorating your laundry room...that's a little extravagant isn't it? Well let me tell you, we spent less than $50 sprucing up ours and it was money well spent! I seem to not mind as much doing the laundry and being in that room doesn't seem to be boring anymore.
One of the big reasons as to why I love hanging out in this space now is not only is it visually appealing, but it is also organized! You guys know I love an organized space and the laundry room is no exception.
So today, I am going to share with you my top 10 ways that I organized the laundry room and keep it that way!
Adding a Shelf
I saw this idea all over Pinterest and thought to myself "why didn't I think of that before?!" It gives you so much more room and allows you to utilize the room much better! Not only does my shelf allow me to keep stuff that I normally use to do the laundry, like detergent, dryer balls, etc. but also serves as a little entryway table. I have a dish where I am able to drop off my keys and sunglasses.
Lint Bucket
As soon as I saw this copper bucket in the Target dollar spot, I knew that I wanted to hang it up in my laundry room and use it as a lint bucket. I love that I don't have to walk all over the house with the lint in my hands and now I can quickly dispose of it, minimizing the amount of dust I trail all over the house.
Use Baskets!
I have had these baskets for years and in every space that I've lived, I've used them in different ways. I absolutely love them because they are so versatile and easy to clean. This time, I decided to use them in the laundry room to help keep the cabinets organized. The cabinets are hung a little high and I was having a hard time keeping them organized as I couldn't see the back of the shelf without using a step stool. The baskets help me keep things in order without cluttering up the shelves.
Have a Tray for Change or Miscellaneous Items
Our laundry room also serves as a mud room since it is right off the garage. In order to make this space multi functional, I added a tray to help keep the things I need whenever I am walking out the door, like keys and sunglasses.
Keep Mail Off Precious Counter Space
Whenever I added the shelf to this space, I wanted to make sure that I didn't clutter it up with "stuff" but have a purpose for it. One of the main issues I had, was keeping the daily mail off the counter. I found this key and mail organizer on one of my many Target trips and it has been the best way to keep mail contained and organized. I always know where the mail is and love that it has two slots, so my my husband and I have our own little areas.
Have a Place to Hang Keys
Having a place to hang your keys is the key to preventing that panic when you can't find your keys as you are rushing out the door. My husband and I have gotten in the habit to hang our keys up as soon as we walk in the door. It is one less thing we have to worry about whenever we are hurrying to make an appointment.
Hooks
Once I added hooks to our laundry room/mud room it was a game changer for us. It gave us so much more use out of the space. This is where I hang my purse and diaper bag, where we keep our pool and beach bags so we are always ready to go! These hooks were a gift from my mom, but here are some of my favorites.
Use Back of Door Space
Storage space is a necessity in our home, so I have had to get creative with how we use our space. Behind the door is no exception! This is the perfect spot to hang our ironing board keeping it out of the way but accessible.
To Do list on Door
This has been the most recent addition to our laundry room. I have been coveting pictures on Pinterest where bloggers have painted the interior doors in the homes black while keeping the trim white. I absolutely love this look and wanted to try it out. I settled on using black chalk paint so that the door could also double as a chalkboard. We have transformed it into our home chore To Do list. We absolutely love it because it is a constant reminder of things that we have agreed we would like to get done this year, so it helps keeps us in check.

Keep a Bowl to Keep Dirty Linens before Washing
This is by far my absolute favorite tip for the laundry room. I wish I could take credit for it, but I actually saw this for this first time while binge watching YouTube videos from At Home with Nikki. If you have not heard of this channel, you MUST check it out. She has amazing and beautiful tips and ideas to make your home gorgeously organized.
I keep a large bowl on top of the washer where, I throw in any used kitchen cloths or washcloths that Is not enough to run a load. This helps keep them out of the washer so bacteria doesn't grow in there and accessible so that I can throw them in whenever I am doing a wash. The bowl also comes in handy whenever I need to hand wash something or leave something soaking.
