A Simple Master Bedroom Winter Refresh on a Budget

As we were anticipating the completion of our four season room enclosure, my husband and I quickly began dreaming up ways to decorate the new space. The more we thought about it, the more we convinced ourselves that updating the furniture in our master bedroom would be a better result for us. So I quickly came up with a plan to reuse our current furniture in our master bedroom in the new four season room and get almost all new furniture for our master bedroom.

So over the last couple of months, we have slowly been updating the furniture in our master bedroom and it has totally transformed the space! I can't wait to show you! But before I do, let's take a look at how the room used to look.

The Before:

When trying to determine what we wanted to change about our master bedroom, my hubby and I both agreed on one thing - we wanted the room to feel brighter. Unfortunately, the dark dressers that we had just made the room feel cold and dark. Another thing we both agreed on is that we eventually would like to update our bed frame to something like the below:

We still haven't found the bed that we truly love and are just taking our time selecting it. I know that once we finally do updated it, it will be the focal point of the room, so I want tot make sure that we get a nice, quality bed that will last us for years to come. If you have any suggestions, please send them my way!

We also both agreed that we loved the wall color and wanted to work with it (Anonymous by Behr from the Home Depot). So I felt that white furniture would pop against the dark gray walls best. I decided to get the IKEA Hemnes line of dressers due to the ample storage solution that they provide. I simply updated them a little bit with new hardware that I got from Amazon. It's the perfect touch to pretty them up a bit. Such a simple change made all the difference in this space!

Fixing my decorating mistake

Once the dressers were updated, it was apparent that I also needed to update the curtains. That's how it always happens right?! But, I'm SO happy we did because I was finally able to fix one of my own decorating mistakes by hanging the curtains too low, which made the walls appear shorter. I wanted to highlight the ceiling height in this room, so this time we hung the curtains higher. Look at that difference!

BEFORE: Curtains hung too low.

And the after is SO much better! Don’t ya think? If you notice different curtains, then you are right, these are solid white rather than cream that we got from my mom. She no longer wanted them so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to fix my decorating mistake and hang these curtains higher.

AFTER: Hanging curtains at the right height.

Next update was right in between the windows. When we first moved into our home, my husband and I would talk about how we wanted a little sitting area in our master so that we could sit and enjoy a nice cup of coffee in the morning. But after four years of living with this set up, I can honestly say we sat here maybe once or twice. This sitting area clearly isn't working for us.

BEFORE

I decided to update this spot by relocation a Target desk that I purchased a few years back and turn it into a chic console table. By shopping my home, I was able to quickly create this look that I just and we find that the space feels a lot more open now. I'm still searching for the perfect little upholstered stools to place below to call this spot fully finished. But just as our bed frame search, we are holding out to find the perfect piece rather than just purchasing something fast.

AFTER

One of the areas that I wanted to work on in my home this year was trying to incorporate more live plants into my decor. My goal is to have at least one live plant in every room. I found this one at IKEA and I’m so happy with how it livens the room up. A little greenery goes a long way, try it!

The decor on the nightstands stayed mostly the same with a few updates here and there by shopping my own home for pieces. I love how the white furniture helps make the room feel light and bright!

A few simple updates that make a big difference! I It feels like we have a new room with a a few simple updates.

Our bedding is pretty simple and I like keeping everything white so that I can just play around with throw pillows. I got these throw pillow covers from Target several years ago and still love them. They have held up so well and I love the love the how the mustard yellow pops against all the white bedding. I also decided to remove the down comforter because we honestly never used it and it become more of a hassle to have it. It’s just too hot for one in Florida! I just kept my usual white quilt and that’s been working great!

Such an easy update that allowed us to have the bright and light bedroom we were craving for without spending a lot of money!

Happy Decorating!
