Affordable Ways to Update Your Bedroom for Spring

Spring time is almost here and I can't help but feel the need for a refresh. There's something about spring time that makes me want to declutter, clean, and refresh for a light and airy feel in my bedroom. If you also have the spring decorating itch, follow along as I show you around the small changes I've made in our bedroom.

Start with a Deep Clean

There's nothing better than starting with a clean slate! I always start any room refresh by giving the space a deep clean. It's amazing how much of a change a deep clean can make in how you view and feel in the space. I start at the top and work my way down - starting with the ceiling fan and working my way down the room.  I focus on chores that I don't do weekly, like deep cleaning the windows - inside and out, dusting baseboards and vacuuming behind heavy furniture.

Declutter

A cluttered bedroom can make it difficult to relax and rest. I find that decluttering before decorating allows you to see what the space truly needs and lets your décor stand out rather than blend in. A decluttered space will allow you to create a calm and inviting space you won’t want to leave.

Change up Your Bedding

One of my favorite ways to update the bedroom at any season is by focusing on the bedding because you can usually select a couple of pieces to invest in for a big impact without much damage to your wallet. During spring and summer, I usually like to bring in lighter colors with small pops while at fall and winter time I tend to decorate with more moodier colors.

I changed out our cozy flannel bedding for crisp cotton sheets that keep cool during these warm weather months. I also added a coverlet which for the Florida spring is just enough covers to keep us cool at night. On top, mostly for color and for some of the random cooler nights that we will get here, I added a duvet set that I got last year for less than $25 on Amazon!

Update Florals

I am a huge believer that florals can elevate any space. I like to play around with real or faux flowers. It can be something as easy as going outside and getting some magnolia stems from our backyard or using some of my favorite faux stems to bring in that spring look.

Play around with Color

Introduce a new colors by using throw pillows, rugs, curtains, and blankets. Selecting a color that you are loving for the season and tying it in with pillows and blankets can instantly update your space. It doesn’t take a lot to change the look while keep the foundational pieces the same - like your wall color and large furniture pieces. For my bedroom, I’ve been wanting to play around with oranges and red. The easiest way to that was with throw pillow covers from Ikea and West Elm.
