Evolution of our Bedroom

Hope you are having a great week! I’ve been super busy lately working on several room makeovers. I didn’t really plan on doing several rooms at once but it all just happened so fast I just couldn’t stop!

You see, it all started when on Christmas Eve we splurged and ordered a Sleep Number mattress. (It’s fantastic by the way). This mattress requires a box spring and that’s not something that we’ve ever used before. So we sold our platform bed and began searching for a new headboard and frame to accommodate our new mattress.

As I researched the new bed frame, I started thinking about painting the walls. We’ve had the gray for a while and I was ready for a change. All of this led me to think about how my style has evolved throughout our time living in our home.

We started off as a newly married couple trying to furnish this space quickly and cheaply. I wanted to give this room some color but my husband was hesitant about painting our brand new walls, so I convinced him to let me paint an accent wall. I chose a dark teal color and left the others beige.

After about a year or so of living here, we had started trying to remove all signs of beige from our house. I began painting all of the walls a light gray and our bedroom a dark gray in an attempt to make the space feel more modern.

We kept the room this way for many years, updating furniture here and there as I discovered Facebook Marketplace and developed a love for finding antiques to incorporate in my space.

I added sentimental art pieces painted by my grandmother and always felt that in order to make them feel more modern with the paintings, I needed a darker wall color. So when the opportunity came to finally give this room a little change, I jumped on it! The new bed helped me get all my ducks in a row and ensure that everything in the room would flow nicely together to achieve the modern traditional look that I love.

All of these pictures show that decorating a room and finding your style takes TIME. We haven’t spent a ton of money on this space, but slowly over the 6 years that we have lived in this home, I’ve made small changes here and there to fine tune my style. It’s taken time and creativity to get it to this point and I couldn’t be happier with how it looks now. I’m loving the modern traditional style that we’ve achieved and can’t wait to see where it continues to take us!

Ever since I was a little girl I have been fascinated with interior decorating and using my hands to create beautiful things to incorporate in my space.

I believe that making your house a home shouldn’t be a difficult or expensive but exciting and most of all fun! It isn’t about the size or location of your home but about being able to create a space that is yours to fit your budget without sacrificing style.

Having recently purchased our first home, we’ve been busy creating a space that is ours as we blend my and my husband’s styles together. Explore the site to see what we have accomplished!
