How to Really Deep Clean your Couch

Anyone get the cleaning itch once the New Year rolls around? Just me?

The idea of starting off the year with a clean space always sounds appealing to me. This is the time that I’m motivated to deep clean all.the.things. Whenever I’m feeling this way, I like to take advantage of it because it doesn’t come around every day, haha!

Since having young children in the house, man do things get dirty. One of those things that I never really paid attention to when it was just me and my husband was the couch. If the sofa ever needed clean, we typically spot cleaned it and called it day. But with kids, it a whole other ball game. I mean, how do crumbs of food get under the cushions anyway?! Are they saving food there for later? I have no idea but wow, did we have a collection of food in there.

So now I’ve made it a point to deep clean my couch at least twice a year. This will not only help you maintain a clean sofa but also save you lots of money when your sofa lasts a lot longer than expected.

Supplies:

  1. Defuzzer/Shaver: this magical tool will make your couch look like new. You can also use it on your clothes!

  2. Vacuum: this one is similar to mine, not crazy expensive but works better than a Dyson in my opinion.

  3. Upholstery Cleaning Machine: My favorite new tool. This thing works wonders!

Steps:

Vacuum

I don’t know about you, but deep cleaning our couch almost always turns into a treasure hunt. It’s amazing the amount of “stuff” that can hide in between the cushions and underneath the seats. I also like to use the upholstery attachment on the vaccuum to clean the back of sofa. It’s amazing the amount of dust that just accumulates.

Using the upholstery attachment I vacuum all of the couch, including the back sides.

Upholstery Cleaning Machine

I’ve been lusting over this machine for years and last year I finally took the plunge and got it. It’s one of the best purchases I’ve made for helping me keep my home clean with two little ones around. I’ve even used this machine to deep clean our mattress which makes the clean freak in me super happy.

The Bissell Spot and Stain Deep Cleaning Machine is my absolute favorite cleaning tool. I clean everything with this, couch, mattress, rugs, cushions, etc.

Ugh..so gross but sooo satisfying to know it’s clean!

Let dry

I usually let my couch dry for a full day. It’s super humid here in Florida so things take a little longer to air dry than in other areas. Just make sure your cushions are super dry before you move on to your next step.
