How to Drill into Granite & Install a Soap Dispenser
Happy Monday! I've got a super exciting post for you today because it's something that I thought I would never be able to do. Drilling into my granite kitchen slab was never on my DIY list until I started doing some research. The more I read, the more I realized that it could be something that we could DIY.
The reason that I really wanted to know if I could drill into my granite kitchen countertop was so that I could install a dish soap dispenser. Our kitchen sink sits on our island which faces out into our great room. The perfectionist in me really dislikes walking into this space and seeing my dish soap sitting on top of the counter. I wanted a nice, clean counter so that when you walked into the room, you wouldn't be able to see dish soap.
Also, as I was watching @phillip_or_flop on Instagram stories, he shared a tip that I was dying to try out. He had installed a soap dispenser that had an extension tube attached to it with a huge Costco size bottle of dish soap sitting at the bottom of the cabinet. That means he only has to replace that bottle once or twice a year!

MATERIALS:
Drill with a level
Ready to start drilling?
Take the following steps first!
Decide where on your counter you want the hole to be and tape it out. We made a square around the circumference of our soap dispense with tape.
Now, with your drill bit on the counter, draw out the circle with a marker. This is just to help you make sure you are drilling in the right place.
Now you are ready to start drilling!
Start at an angle to score the granite at first.
Slowly start to straighten your drill as the hole begins to take shape.
Once you've scored the granite all around the circle, add a little water to keep the drill bit cool.
Make sure to keep your drill straight! This is when having a drill with a level is key. Lightly put pressure on the drill and keep it straight.
Keep adding a little water to make sure the drill bit stays cool and drill till you break through the other end!
And done! Pretty simple right?! I have to admit that after removing and replacing our undermount sink earlier this month I was pretty confident that we could do this too. It was a lot easier than I anticipated and after a few weeks of living with it, I'm super happy with the result!
I purchased this soap dispenser off Amazon and it matches our faucet perfectly. I wanted this specific soap dispenser because it came with the extension tube that allows me to connect the dish soap right from the dish soap bottle. I got a 90 fl. oz. dish soap bottle from Costco and I’m expecting it to last between 6 months to a year.
