Laundry Room Update: DIY Marble Shelf & New Color Cabinets
I’ve been working on a super fun update in the laundry room and finally here to tell you all about it! If you’ve been here for a while, then you know this room has gotten quite a few makeovers and I feel like it’s finally starting to look and feel like how I envisioned.
My hope with sharing my projects with you is to show that making a home takes time. You’ll see me tackle my projects in stages as our budget allows or come up with creative ways to create a budget version of what I really want. I think it’s a fun process to see the same room being worked on over time rather than one huge makeover and hope you do too.

When we painted our TV area “Urbane Bronze” by Sherwin Williams, I new I wanted to carry it to another area in our home. This is my trick for making my home feel cohesive - showing the same color throughout my home in different ways. So when deciding to give our laundry room an update, I knew that it was the perfect color for cabinets.
This space has no natural light, so it was important to me to not make it feel too dark. Painting the cabinets dark allowed me to give the space some much needed interest, while leaving the walls white allowed the room to still feel bright.

Since adding a shelf above our washer and dryer, it has always felt a little off. The color of the cabinets and the wood felt a little farmhouse and I mostly gravitate towards a more traditional modern look. I wanted something fun, but budget friendly and when Amazon popped this contact paper as an item I would like I just had to get it.
It was surprisingly super easy to install over the wood shelf and looks SO good. The trick is to peel off the backing a little at a time and work out any air bubbles out with a flat edge before folding down.
I also used a blow dryer and a flat edge to help warm up the glue on the sides of the shelf. Not bad for a $5 project!
I loved how the shelf turned out that I decided to add the contact paper on the back wall to make it look like a slab of marble backsplash.
