We got a Puppy!

I’m so excited to share with you about the recent addition to our family. After years of research and preparation, we finally decided that NOW was the right time for us to get a dog. We are so super excited to welcome Charlie - a miniature Goldendoodle into our home and lives.

In the short time that he’s been here with us, he has already stolen our hearts. He’s smart but spunky with lots of personality but yet gentle and sweet with our kids. We couldn’t have asked for a better addition to our family and cannot wait to go on many adventures together.

Why a Goldendoodle?

We did A LOT of research regarding different dog breads and eventually landed on a Goldendoodle because of their non-shedding coat and their gentle personalities. As a family that suffers from allergies, it was important to us that the dog had a non-shedding coat. The last thing we wanted was to introduce a dog to our family to be forced to find it a new home because of our allergies. It was also very important to us that the dog be gentle and good with small children since we have two kids under six.

How I got our house prepared for a new puppy?

As for someone who enjoys keeping my home organized, it was important to me to make sure that I had space and storage solutions for all the things that a new puppy comes with. I first decided where I was going to keep the food and water bowl - at the end of our kitchen island - and then cleared a cabinet. This wasn’t as hard as it sounds because over the past couple of years, I’ve been working my way around the kitchen, donating kitchen items that I just don’t use - allowing me to move some items around so that I could have one whole cabinet empty for all things dog :)

In this cabinet we keep all of Charlie’s food and treats. This stuff takes up a lot of space! We’ve been working hard on training Charlie, so we have several different kinds of training treats plus some chew toys and poop bags.

In the laundry room, I simply added some hooks to keep his leashes, harness, and a flashlight for those nighttime walks. Having a system for all this new stuff helps keep stuff off the counters.

Charlies “room” is a kennel that’s big enough for him to stand up and turn around in. It took some time, but he’s finally gotten the hang of the kennel and now stands right in front of it waiting for us to open the door so that he can go in to rest. It makes me so happy that he feels like he has his own space in our home.
