Frugal ways I'm Decorating & Maintaining my Home Right NOW

Almost everyone these days is feeling some of the effects of high inflation. I thought it would be useful to create a blog post all about frugal ways to decorate and maintain your home right NOW. Because we could all use a little help these days, am I right?!

FACEBOOK MARKETPLACE

Recession or not, Facebook Marketplace has become my favorite place to find those special pieces that will really stand the test of time. There are plenty of posts out there with tips on how to search on Facebook to help you score some really beautiful pieces, but the one that I've found the most useful is Alisa's from A Glass of Bovino. Be sure to check out Alisa's post if you are a newbie at using Facebook Marketplace and how to teach the algorithm to show you all the things YOU love.

Over time and with some patience, I've been able to find some quality pieces for practically every room in our home. Facebook Marketplace is also a fantastic way to get popular decor in an affordable way, you can easily DIY a lamp or a faux tree like I did, and only spend $35 rather than $100+ if you were to buy new at a store.

REARRANGING FURNATURE

I have a confession to make…I'm a serial furniture rearranger. My poor husband never knows if he's going to come home to the same house he left that morning. If I'm ever feeling bored with a space or just feeling a little bland, I start by emptying the room of all décor items and giving it a good clean. Then I sit in the space and just look around and think about how out family uses the room and if there's something we need to function better.

I recently did this in our family room and results turned out to be amazing. I was able to create three different zones (reading, lounging, and desk zones) in the family room area and the space functions a whole lot better for us. On the plus side, it feels like a completely different room and I didn’t spend a dime, just used furniture and décor from different areas in our home to refresh this space and make it feel new again.

MAKE YOUR OWN CLEANING PRODUCTS

I've been making our own cleaning products for a few years now. It started once we started having kids and I became interested in wanting to know the ingredients in the products that I was using around our home. So I decided that it was just easier to make our own. Below are some of my favorite cleaning recipes that I make almost weekly!

DIY Granite Cleaner - in a spray bottle fill it with 1/4 full of isopropyl alcohol along with 3-4 pumps of dish soap. Fill the rest of the spray bottle with WARM water. Mix well.

Adding Vinegar and essential oils to my Mop Cleaner - I love mopping my floors with my Bissel Crosswave Floor and Rug Cleaner but I don't love spending money on their cleaners. So I just usually add vinegar instead of branded cleaners to the reservoir and I add a couple of drops of orange essential oils to the filter. The floors get sparkling clean AND they smell delicious too! I've been doing this for years and it's been working great with my machine.

Water and Vinegar to clean Windows and Mirrors - I quit buying Windex years ago when I found out that a 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water does exactly the same thing! You can get a 1.32 gallon bottle of vinegar at Costco for less than $5, making vinegar not only economical household cleaning product but one with many uses.
