A Modern Traditionalist takes on Minimalism

This post is sponsored by allModern.

I've been working behind the scenes non-stop for the past couple of weeks giving our living room space a makeover. I'm so happy with how it turned out and today is the day I finally get to share it with you! I partnered with allModern to give this space a minimalist refresh while incorporating the modern traditionalist touches that I love.  I've been itching to refresh this space to better fit in with our newly made over kitchen and dining room

Dining Room and Kitchen - House by the Preserve

My main goal for this space was to create a room that was not only comfortable to hang out as a family but to also serve as a spot for my husband and I to reconnect after the little ones have gone to bed. We have a large sectional that my hubby and I purchased when we first bought the house and if I were to do it again, I would pick something smaller. But I'm working with what we have and the sectional provides a comfortable spot for all of us to spread out.

Once our kitchen and dining room were complete, it was pretty clear to me that we were going to have to paint the walls in this space. I've always loved having this area a darker color as it easily helps define the space as our living room. Since the kitchen, dining, and living room are all one great room, the color of the walls needed to work with those other two spaces so selecting the color was quite the process.

I landed on Sherwin Williams color of the year for 2021 - Urbane Bronze - and absolutely love it. I have to admit, the hubby and I had a little bit of a freak out when we first started painting the walls because it was so unlike any of the colors we had previously used in our home. But once we got it up on a whole wall we fell in love. It's such a beautiful color that coordinates beautifully with the other two spaces. I'm so happy we stepped out of our comfort zone!

Since the sectional takes so much visual space, I decided to remove some furniture pieces to let the room "breathe" a little better. Leaving one wall free of furniture helps the space feel intentional rather than cramped. I also dressed up the back of the sofa that can be seen from the kitchen with a beautiful throw to provide color and texture.

I also removed art and a mirror from around the tv wall. I've always struggled a lot with this wall because I felt that I had to hang a bunch of art in order to minimize the look of the TV. I built a frame for our TV and used Bless’er House's tips to make our smart tv look like a painting. Such a great idea!

We also switched up the tv console for a longer one. This one was an antique find that I painted black and updated the drawer pulls with these beauties that helped the piece feel more modern.

I've always wanted a tree in this room, but without any natural light, it's hard to keep anything alive. I DIY'd this faux tree and gave the pot a makeover to better fit the style of the space.

Since getting this large sectional, we've always struggled with the coffee table. They were either too large or too square or too tall. We've FINALLY found the perfect one for this space and I absolutely LOVE how it looks. The marble top helps bring another material in the space and fits beautifully in our room.  It's so nice to finally have a coffee table in here that fits the decor and space.

On the sofa, I wanted to keep this light and bright with the throw pillows. I usually keep quite a few throw pillows that I'm constantly fluffing. I decided to keep the number of throw pillows on the sofa to a minimum as well as keeping them neutral, letting the color on the walls and the area rug bring the color.

We are just so happy with how this room turned out. It has become a spot that we all gravitate towards to after dinner to reconnect as a family which makes this mama very happy.
